Telehealth Video Counselling

Telehealth counselling involves attending your counselling online via Video communication software (currently WhatsApp).   June offers telehealth sessions on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  â€‹

For video counselling/telehealth to be effective:

  • Reliable broadband WIFI internet connection.   Mobile data drops out and is not recommended.

  • A quiet indoor private space where you can speak without interruption or distraction.

  • A device with WhatsApp set-up.  Please test it works prior to your session.

    • A computer/laptop is usually the best device for counselling, as it minimises interruptions from phone calls. Both WhatsApp and Teams work more effectively for counselling on a computer/laptop.

    • Note - phones often overheat when used for 50+ minutes, significantly interrupting sessions.

  • Your camera/video must be on at all times with a clear view of your face.

  • It is important to wear a headset with a microphone, as this ensures that we can hear each other.

SAFETYPlease avoid doing telehealth sessions in your car, for health and safety reasons.  In particular, it is very unsafe in Summer - both you and your phone may overheat!

PRIVACY  -  As our counselling should be a private experience, June prefers if you do NOT do our session in public places (eg. shopping centres, parks, open plan work places)

NOTE - If telehealth is not effective due to the limits of your technology or unreliable WIFI (frequent drop outs, freezing etc), we will not be able to continue on this basis.

Advantages of telehealth counselling:

  • Easier access to therapeutic support for those with difficulties commuting to in-person therapy sessions.

  • Connecting virtually can lower social anxieties associated with sharing physical spaces with others.

  • If you have reliable internet access, telehealth counselling gives you relatively quick and easy access to treatment that might not have been readily available to you otherwise.

Disadvantages of telehealth counselling:

  • Not all psychological conditions can be appropriately treated using telehealth.  If this is the case, June will have to change you to In Person counselling.

  • Video counselling comes with the added pressure of you and June relying on an internet connection. One or both of you may lose service, interfering with your ability to connect when desired or needed.

  • Accessing telehealth from your home, work or a public environment may not adequately protect your privacy and confidentiality. Consider whether anyone can overhear the consultation prior to consenting to a telehealth session..

  • The home/work environment can be very distracting with interruptions, phone calls, dogs barking etc.

  • A reduction in non-verbal cues may interfere with the development of a deep understanding of your concerns.

  • It is offered for individual sessions only.  Couples/families can only be seen in person.

Please note that June does not offer telephone counselling or consultations.
